Edith "LaVerna" Amann

June 15, 1924 — July 29, 2014

Edith "LaVerna" Amann was born June 15, 1924, the second of seven children born to W.E. and Grace (Davis) Riley. She was born at the home of her grandparents, Ned and Nellie Davis northeast of Trenton, NE. She passed away on July 29, 2014 at Linden Court in North Platte.

She grew up on the family farm a mile east of Trenton and attended Trenton Schools for 12 years, graduating with the class of 1941. She taught in rural schools in Hitchcock County for five years, 11 years at Trenton and one year at Lexington, NE. She attended Kearney State College and received her BA degree in 1950.

On June 17, 1951 she married Hugh Amann. In the spring of 1952 they moved to the Beverly area. They farmed there until 1997 when they moved to Atwood, KS to Prairie Plaza Retirement Center.

Her husband, Hugh, passed away February 26, 2005. She continued to live in Atwood.

LaVerna was a member of the Trenton Congregational United Church of Christ since 1937. She served many positions in the work of this church, touching many young lives as a Sunday School teacher.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Hugh; her parents, Edd and Grace Riley; her sisters, Edna Frick, Lolita Biehl, Nedine Skinner and their husbands; her brother, Paul; and her niece Joanne Miller.

LaVerna is survived by her family, who she loved dearly; a brother, Lynn (Sharon) Riley of North Platte; sister, Linda (Gary) Wooters of Ponca City, OK; a special friend, Elmer Timson of Atwood; sister-in-law, Margaret Amann of Cambridge; and three generations of very special nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Trenton Cemetery Association.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Trenton Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Jean Miller and LaVerna's niece, Pastor Nancy Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in the Trenton Cemetery.
