Edmond M. Unger, 94, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 2004) at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma, Colo.

He was born Nov. 18, 1909, to John and Stella (Lang) Unger.

On April 19, 1934, he married Bertha Tongish at St. Mary's Church in Herndon. The couple lived on a farm north of Herndon until 1967, when they moved to McCook, where he worked for Southwest Bell until 1990.

He served as a Rawlins County Commissioner, director of Tri-State Livestock, was on the Board of Directors for the State Bank of Herndon as well as Herndon Equity and was a country school board member for many years. He was also a 4-H leader and scout leader. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and St. Mary's Church in Herndon and then St. Patrick's Church in McCook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sons, Kenneth; four sisters, Elizabeth Green Solko, Helen Wahrman, Leona Riley and Francis Headman; and one brother, John.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; three sons, Charles and wife, Eileen of Herndon, JR and wife, Carole of Yuma and Virgil and wife, Catherine of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Shirley and husband, Jerry Wallman of Lakewood, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Roma Unger of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one sister, Susan Walsh of Ocean Park, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Rosary is today, 6:30 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Visitation is today until the rosary at the funeral home.
