Effie “Laura” Walker died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis. She was 93 years old.
Laura was born on December 24, 1912 in Hayes County, Nebraska to Marvin LeRoy and Effie Mae (Phelps) Evans. She graduated from UNSA High School at Curtis in 1931. On August 16, 1936 she married Lawrence William Walker at the family farm. To this union, three children were born, Charles, Cletis and Marjory.
Laura was a busy homemaker as well as helping out on the farm. Laura served a 4-H Leader for over 50 years. She was a member of the Evergreen Union Church, Missionary Society and taught Sunday school. Other memberships included Harmony Club and Mary Jane Extension Club. She was a quilter, enjoyed cooking, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Preceding her in death were her parents, Marvin and Rose Evans; her husband, Lawrence; one brother, Andrew; four sisters, Helen, Evelyn, Mamie, and Maudie; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Walker.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Walker and wife, Sara Mae and Cletis Walker all of McCook; daughter, Marjory L. and husband, Raymond Floyd, of Cheyenne, WY; one brother, John Warren Evans and wife, Jenica, of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law, Velma Walker of Maywood; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Visitation will be Thursday until 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 2, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
