Elaine G. Mizell, age 90, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.
She was born on December 15, 1917 to Hugo A. and Anna Selma (Stramp) VonSchuetz at Kanona, Kansas. She graduated from Jennings High School in 1935, and then went on to Stewarts Beauty Academy in Topeka. She became a beautician from 1936 and retired in 1991.
She married Kenneth D. Mizell in Jennings, KS on December 24, 1938. To this union six children were born.
She was an active 77-year member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as past- president of United Methodist Womens Group, Rebecca Circle Leader, worked at Helping Hands Thrift Shop, and helped organize funeral dinners for many years. She was a 75-year member of Royal Neighbors of America and was currently serving as their secretary/treasurer and past-district-president. She was past-president of Federated Womens Club and current president of what is now called Womens Club.
She was a member of the United Transportation Auxiliary, Burlington Northern Veterans Auxiliary, and American Association of Retired Persons where she served as past-presidents for all of these organizations. Elaine was past-matron of Eastern Star #86 and the current President and Treasurer of the Easter Lily Lodge. She served as the Resident Commissioner of McCook Housing Agency. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Leader, and past-president of McCook Public Schools PTA. In her free time she was member of a card club and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Kenneth Mizell; son, Garry Mizell; three sisters, Doris Burns, Josephine Kinser, and Frances Yarberry.
She is survived by three daughters, Karon (Bill) Mizell of Cotter, Arkansas, Coleen (Dick) Ellis of Alliance, Sherry (Jerry) Feagins of Omaha; two sons, Kenneth L. (Paula) Mizell of Beaufort, NC, Dennis L. (Gail) Mizell of Angleton, TX; 12 grandchildren, Steven Ruch, Stephanie Wallace, Curt Caudle, Cassie Adolphson, Deborra Blay, Todd Lofton, Garry (Mizell) Zika, Lorrie Mizell, Kenneth W. Mizell, Amy Mizell, Dennis R. Mizell, Christy Lesher; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and long-time friends.
Memorials were to be given to Memorial United Methodist Church or Royal Neighbors in her name.
Funeral services were Friday, January 18, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in the Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Kansas.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
