Elvin Goodson

Elvin T. Goodson, age 90, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
He was born on January 8, 1920 at Reynolds, NE in Jefferson County to Samuel D. and Mary L. (Apel) Goodson. He attended High School in Fairbury.
He married Helen L. Gaarder on April 17, 1943 in Omaha.
In 1940 he went to work at Glen L. Martin Bomber Plant in Baltimore and in Omaha. In 1944 he joined the Navy where he spent time at the Alameda Naval Air Station and on the U.S.S. Portunus Repair Ship. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He started a Plumbing and Heating business in Carleton, NE. Later moving to Beaver City and on to McCook in 1951 where he and his wife Helen operated Goodson Plumbing, Heating and Appliance business for 31 years. They retired in 1982 and enjoyed many years of traveling to visit friends and family as well as spending winters in Arizona.
Elvin was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Methodist Men, Red Willow Good Sam's Club, V.F.W., High Plains Museum, and honorary member of the Nebraska Plumbing and Heating Association.
Preceding him in death are his parents; six brothers, Erwin, Elmer, Joy, Douglas, Samuel and Howard Goodson; three sisters, Ruth Goodson, Hazel Dopp and Gladys Goodson.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sisters, Elizabeth Mason and Avon Goodson; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Memorials may be given in his name or to Memorial United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Friday 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may sign his book at the funeral home or send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 16, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
