Ernest "Ernie" Richard Fischer, formally of McCook, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Southlake Nursing Home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 95 years old.
Ernie was born March 15, 1914 to Robert E. and Jane (Hebrink) Fischer at Firth, Nebraska.
He graduated from Dewitt High School, Dewitt, Nebraska. On May 11, 1940, he married Maxine Ellen Abernathy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. To this union four children were born: Mary, David, Terrance and Barbara.
He and Maxine owned and operated Fischer's Toys and Ice Cream for many years. Ernie was also a Boy Scout leader. He sponsored many baseball teams throughout the years and enjoyed all kids, especially his own children and their activities. "His life was his kids!"
Ernie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the VFW.
Survivors include: his wife, Maxine; daughter, Mary Law; son, David and wife, Rosemary Fischer all of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Terry Fischer of Texas; and daughter, Barb and husband, Bill Elliott of McCook; ten grandchildren; Jon, Michelle, Nicole, Joe, Wesley, Pamela, Holly, Billie, Steven and Benjamin; 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three sisters; an infant son, Francis Fischer, and a granddaughter, Debbie Law.
Memorials were being accepted in his name.
Rosary took place Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Pat's Catholic Church on Friday November 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Gary Brethour officiating with burial at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebr at 2:00 p.m.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
