Eugene Bruce Cappel

Eugene Bruce Cappel of McCook passed away November 1, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Care Center in Manhattan, Kansas. He was 74 years old.

Eugene was born to parents, Fred G. and Marie (Graf) Cappel on October 6, 1938 in McCook, Nebraska. He graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1958.

Eugene served in the Army National Guard stationed in McCook, NE, and was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 1434 in McCook.

Eugene married Judith Bahl in McCook in 1959. They had three children together, Janell, Kathleen and Bruce. Judith passed away June 18, 1970. On February 10, 1973 Eugene was united in marriage to Roberta Faye Kohmetscher in McCook. Their marriage was blessed at St. Patrick’s Church on March 27, 1999. They made their home in McCook where Eugene was employed at KN Energy until his retirement.

Eugene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and spending time at the lake and with his grand children and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Roberta Cappel on January 22, 2009; his parents, Fred and Marie Cappel, one brother Duane, two sisters: Sharon (Cappel) Kircher, and Judy (Cappel) Black.

Survivors include his children, Terry Chitwood, of McCook, Debbie and husband, Rick Cumming, of Danbury, Peggy and husband, Dan Dueland, of McCook, Rose and husband, Joe Koetter, of McCook, Janell and husband, Dennis Carson, of White City, KS, Mark Chitwood and wife, Stacy, of McCook, Kathleen and husband, John Spresser, of Herington, KS, Todd Chitwood and wife, Diane, of Grand Island, Bruce Cappel and wife, Cecilie, of Granite Falls, WA, and Cindy and husband, David Pohl, of McCook; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 6, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until time of Rosary at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in McCook.
