Evelyn June (Trembly) Salyer passed away at her home in McCook on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. She was 85 years old.
Evelyn was born to Benjamin and Edith (Alsbury) Trembly on a farm south of Wauneta on April 11, 1929.
She resided with her parents in Wauneta during her growing up years, graduating from Wauneta High School in 1946. After graduation she attended a trade school in Omaha. She returned to Wauneta where she worked in a clothing store and drug store for several years.
She was married to Wayne Salyer in Wauneta on November 7, 1948 and God blessed them with three children, Lynn, Suzanne and Jan.
Evelyn was baptized into the Christian faith in 1952 and later was confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta. She graciously accepted the love the Lord had for her and the blessings that came through him. Strength that can only come from the Lord sustained her when her husband died suddenly in 1995.
In 1982, she and Wayne moved from Wauneta to the panhandle of Nebraska where Wayne worked for the State of Nebraska and for a time she worked at the Martin Luther Home in Mitchell. They moved from Gering to McCook in 1993 to enjoy their retirement years.
Evelyn was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and Ladies Guild of McCook and American Legion Auxiliary of Wauneta at the time of her death. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting and baking giving mostly everything she made away to family and friends.
Her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been a great blessing to her and each one holds a special place in her heart. They are Lynn and Karen Salyer (of McCook) and four children, Suzanne Hodge (of Granite Falls, WA) and four children, and Jan and Allan Livingston and son of Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada.
Memorials may be given in her name to Peace Lutheran Church, 411 East 6th Street, McCook, NE 69001 or KNGN Christian Radio Station, 38005 Road 717, McCook, NE 69001.
A Memorial service will be Monday, January 12, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
