Evelyn Grace Thompson of McCook died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years old.
Evelyn was born on January 12, 1921, in Guide Rock, Nebraska to James Edward "Doc" and Lily Florence (Willett) Mann. She graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1938.
On February 5, 1941, she was united in marriage to William Dale "Bill" Thompson in Mankato, KS. To this union five children were born. They moved to the McCook community in 1955 where Evelyn was a busy mother and homemaker.
She was a long time member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles for 51 years, serving as Nebraska State Madam President in 1981 and 1982.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Doc and Lily Mann; her husband, Bill Thompson on May 11, 2001; son, Craig Mann Thompson; two brothers, Harlan and James Mann; and two sisters, Mary Steward and Wilma Ziegler.
Survivors include her daughter, Rachel and husband, Wally Hampton; three sons, Robert Thompson and wife, Cindy, of Denver, CO, James Thompson and wife, Julie, of McCook and Ron Thompson and wife, Janet, of Idaho Falls, ID; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Victory Christian Academy.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 27, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Rev. Bruce Lester officiating. An inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery was held at an earlier date.
