Frances Marie Flaherty died Friday, January 20, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 88 years old.
She was born at Utica January 25, 1917 to John and Frances (Conway) Sullivan. She attended school in McCook.
She married Patrick Joseph Flaherty October 13, 1942 in McCook. To this union three children were born. They made their home for several years north of Indianola, then moved to the McCook area in 1947 and continued a lifetime in farming. She had lived at Hillcrest Nursing Home since 2002.
She worked at the snack bar at A&M Drug Store now known as McCook Pharmacy. She also worked in the Dietary Department at St. Catherine's Hospital. She gardened and was an avid sewer, making clothing and even sport jackets for her sons. She was known for making the best apple pie.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her mother at birth and her father and step-mother Clara (Wilson) Sullivan; her husband Patrick, December 2, 2004; and granddaughter, Kristi Flaherty.
Survivors include one daughter Jane and husband, Larry Peterson, of Denver, Colo; two sons, James Flaherty and wife, Fenella, of McCook and Lynn Flaherty and wife, Linda, of Holdrege; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorials are being accepted in her name.
Rosary was Monday at 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Breland Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial took place in Calvary Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
