Fred W. Mustion, age 83, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at McCook Community Hospital.
He was born to Gail Cecil and Pearl Victoria (Brindle) Mustion on January 6, 1926 at El Dora, Iowa. He graduated from Bartley High School in 1945. He and his brother Roy where able to purchase their first car, a new Chevy Sedan, after saving $170 from their milking money.
On June 5, 1946, he married Dorothy June Hauxwell at the Indianola Church of Christ.
Fred obtained his teaching certificate from McCook Junior College. He used his teaching certificate to teach with June for two years at District #30 and #8.
He drove a bread truck for Jesse Bread Route around Broken Bow. Later he started farming in 1950 with his first tractor, a new 1949 roll-a-matic John Deere.
He enjoyed traveling with his family on vacation before school started each year. Fred loved being involved with his local church. His early calling in life was working with his church's youth group. He was a faithful supporter of Nebraska Christian College at Norfolk, where his children and grandchildren attended. He rarely missed attending the different sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Another one of his greatest enjoyments in life was to grow and give away his sweet corn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Pearl; wife, June on September 24, 2006; and two brothers, Donald and Carroll.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Searcey and husband, Michael, of McCook; son, Jerry Mustion and wife, Kristene, of Culbertson; brother, Roy Mustion and wife, Mildred, of McCook; sisters, Florence Baker of Decatur, AK, Gladys Harper and husband, LeRoy, of Norton, KS, Dorothy Bruning and husband, Dick, of Minden; sister-in-law, Jean Baswich of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Mark and wife, Sara; Lee and wife, Jenny; Nathaniel and wife, Amanda; Lynn; Angela Barber and husband, David; Jordan and Maleesha; and great-grandchildren, Eric, Aaron, Courtney, Caleb, Matthew, Ruth, Micaiah and Alex.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Missionary Church in Culbertson with Rev. Richard Karr officiating. Burial took place in the Culbertson Cemetery.
