Frieda Steier

Frieda Alta (Yost) Steier, age 90, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
She was born August 7, 1920 on the family farm southwest of Red Willow County to Everett and Minnie (Weeks) Yost.
She attended country school and graduated from Herndon High School.
On December 30, 1943 she married Walter M. Steier at Oberlin, KS. They lived on a farm south of Herndon until 1993 when they moved to McCook to be near their daughters.
Frieda liked to sew and piece quilts, she enjoyed gardening, canning and baking. She enjoyed being outside helping her husband with the farm work. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter on April 28, 1997; three sisters; four brothers; and one great grandson, Clayton Wayne Moreau.
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Wolfram and Marlys Sitzman of McCook; son, Harvey Steier of Atwood, KS; brother, LeRoy Yost of Hayes Center; sister, Lola Allacher of Atwood; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held.
Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will be closed. Friends may sign her book at the funeral home or send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com.
