Garnet Irene McConville died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at McCook Community Hospital. She was 85 years old.
On August 4, 1923 she was born at Indianola to Paul and Ruby L. (Wolf) Fritsch. She graduated from Havanna High School in 1940. In 1973 she graduated from LPN school in Kearney.
Garnet married Marion A. Houghtelling at St. James Church in Curtis on June 17, 1942. He died September 19, 1976. She married LaMoine T. McConville in Cambridge on November 25, 1978.
She lived all her life in the Indianola and McCook communities. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church of Indianola and St. Patrick's Catholic Church of McCook.
She was a member of the Altar Society, enjoyed her prayer groups, Compassionate Friends, and an avid supporter of the Right to Life. She loved working on tied quilts, her family, and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, Marion Archie Houghtelling and LaMoine Thomas McConville, and grandson Gary Blume.
Survivors include sons, David and wife Debra Houghtelling of Cambridge, Dennis and wife Donna Houghtelling of Indianola and Kenneth and wife Beth Houghtelling of Cambridge; daughters, Caron and husband Don High of Indianola, Connie and husband Gary Rothmeyer of Indianola, Paula and husband James Blume of Indianola and LuAnne and husband Doug Gnuse of Valley; step-sons, Bill and wife Sandy McConville of Culbertson, and Ed and wife Rita McConville of Indianola; step-daughters Kathy and husband Dale Wemhoff of Norfolk, Judy and husband Brent Dickie of Omaha, Betty and husband Mark Dodd of Chicago, IL and Donna McConville of Virginia Beach, VA; 37 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren;numerous relatives and friends.
Rosary took place Tuesday evening at Carpenter-Breland Funeral home and Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Thomas McGuire officiating, with burial in the St. Catherine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family had requested memorials to be given to the Community Hospital Foundation.
Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
