Garnett Ginther

Garnett Alva Ginther passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Cozad. He was 91 years old.

Garnett was born on February 23, 1920, at Atwood, Kansas to Clarence Alva and Edith Adaline (Brown) Ginther. He attended rural school near Atwood.

On October 27, 1941 he entered the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945.

Garnett was united in marriage to Lois Davis on June 1, 1946 at Atwood, Kansas. To this union two sons, Gary and Dennis, were born. She preceded him in death. He was later married to Wilma Shaw on October 6, 1966 at McCook and two daughters, Dorothy and Lynda, joined his family.

Garnett was self-employed with his own nursery and lawn service. He also worked several years for McCook Greenhouse and D & S Nursery and Hardware.

He was an avid sports enthusiast including golf, baseball, football, and volleyball.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Edith Ginther; his wives, Lois and Wilma; and one brother, Elmer Ginther.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Ginther of Cambridge and Dennis Ginther and wife, Jackie, of McCook; daughters, Dorothy and husband, B.J. Burroughs of Wichita, KS and Lynda and husband, Loyal Springer, of Lebanon; one brother, Harlan Ginther and wife, Nada, of Atwood; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorials services will be Monday, October 10, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Mike Roth officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
