George Christian Hoelscher, Jr. died Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at the Cambridge Hospital. He was 77 years old.
George was born on October 12, 1932, in Ward County, North Dakota, to George Christian and Daisy Pauline (Laid) Hoelscher, Sr.
On March 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marietta "Jean" Miner. To this union five children were born. They made their home in Culbertson and later settled on a farm southwest of Indianola. George was a farmer as well as a self-employed mechanic. After his retirement, he worked for Dayco for ten more years.
His pastime included collecting antique farm equipment, working in his fruit orchard, spending time with his faithful Collie, Buddy, and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Daisy Hoelscher; one sister, Stella Kandel; and one brother, Albert Hoelscher.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marietta Hoelscher; two sons, George and Jeff Hoelscher; three daughters, Bev and husband, Ed Smith, of Tucson, AZ, Barb and husband, Mark Nelson, of McCook and Donna Hoelscher of Indianola; two brothers, Ernest Hoelscher and wife, Shirley, of Berthold, ND and August Hoelscher of AZ; five sisters, Mable Heller and Marie Jones both of Colorado Springs, CO, Ella Cleary of Bear Lake, MN, Anna Jundt of Minot, ND and Betty Kaylor of Towner, ND; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in his name.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
