George "Sam" Haller

George “Sam” Louis Haller, age 97, of Culbertson, NE passed away at McCook Community Hospital on October 9, 2024. 

A life-long resident of Culbertson, Sam was born September 21, 1927 to Charles and Lena Haller on their family farm. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1945. Sam played high school baseball and as a young adult, he was a lifelong fan of the game. 

Sam farmed his family land in the Stone Church neighborhood south of Culbertson which had been homesteaded by his grandparents, Louis and Sarah Haller in 1906 until it was sold in 2003. He also worked at the McCook Elks Club for nearly 30 years, chiefly as assistant manager. Sam also operated the Rockin’ Robin and then Sam’s Place. 

He was married to Joan Frick on September 21, 1948 . On November 6. 1993, he married Ilene Chavatal Brown in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

He is survived by his four children, Patricia Hahn of Fort Collins CO, Peggy Snyder (Jim) of Bentonville, Ark, Mary Haller of McCook, and Jon Charles Haller (Andrea) of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; as well as three step children, Tina Classen, Tonya Riner and Todd Brown and three step grandchildren and one great grandchild. 

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lena Haller; his siblings Nobel, Richard, Jerome, Charles (Rod) and Ardith Dimond and son-in-law, Darwin Hahn.
