Geraldine “Gerri” Rasser, age 101 of McCook, NE passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at her home in Brookdale, McCook.
Gerri was born March 8, 1918 to parents George John and Lena Elizabeth Reichstein in Campbell, NE. She was one of eleven children, and the last surviving sibling. The family made their home in Campbell until Gerri was eight years old, at which time they moved to Bladen, NE and later Guide Rock, NE. Gerri attended school in Bladen until the 7th grade and then Eckley Consolidated High School near Guide Rock where she completed her education.
Gerri met the love of her life, Robert E. Rasser in Red Cloud, NE and not long after the couple wed on June 23, 1937. To this union one son, Larry, was born in 1938. Bob was employed by CB & Q which was later known as the Burlington Northern Railroad. Bob worked in McCook, Lincoln, NE, and Alliance, NE before permanently settling in McCook in 1952. They made their home in McCook for the rest of their lives where Bob and Gerri enjoyed 64 years of marriage before Bob’s death in 2001.
Gerri was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook for over 60 years. She became a member of the BPO Does in 1940 where she attended several conventions and served as attendant to the president and assistant conductor for 79 years. Gerri worked for a short time at Grants Department Store, and then Schilz Jewelry and Peterson Jewelry for over 25 years before retiring. Gerri moved to Brookdale in 2003.
Gerri’s hobbies included bowling, playing cards with friends, traveling, and doing counter cross stitch. She attended several state and national bowling tournaments over the years and her career high score was 268. Gerri loved sports of any kind and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and McCook Bison fan.
Gerri was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Rasser in 2001; son, Larry Rasser in 2002; grandson, Kenneth Rasser; eight brothers, George in infancy, Marion (Tina), Rellis, Tony, Douglas (Ruth), Harold (Helen), Jack (Pauline) and Worell (Norma) Reichstein; two sisters, Gladys (Frank) Markwardt and Bonnie (Lloyd) Greenhalgh; and special nephew, Jim Reichstein.
Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter in law, Deanna (Pete) Rasser Dow of Flagstaff, AZ; grandson, Steven Rasser of Davis, CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
