Gerold Alfred Bodeman was born October 10, 1921 in Hayes County to Lee A. and Alza Donzella "Dot" (Hilton) Bodeman at their home north of Palisade. He passed from life on April 28, 2009 at the age of 87. He attended country school District #7 graduating the eight grade.
Gerold acquired the love of farming from his father and was a diversified farmer and rancher with a love of cattle and hogs. Gerold worked for various neighboring farmers and moved to McCook to work at the Tire store. Gerold married Norma Ellen Troxel, daughter of Charles Orley and Luella May (Bush) Troxel at the court house in Oberlin, Kansas on August 7, 1943. They worked in McCook before deciding to farm. They moved to the Charles David Troxel homestead north of Wauneta at Elsie, NE. Then they moved onto his Grandfather Bodeman's homestead in 1946. Farming for his family after his siblings all moved to Washington State until the Bodeman family sold the farm. Norma's father purchased it and they farmed for him living at the farm for several years until they moved into palisade. Orley Troxel sold the Bodeman place to them in 1965. They had moved into Palisade while Norma worked for Dr. Lamb. Gerold and Norma never had a family of there own but, were that special aunt and uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. Their home was always open to family and friends. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2004. In 1960 they moved onto the Severns' place east of Palisade and lived there for 22 years. Gerold retired from farming in March of 1988 and they moved back into their house in Palisade. He served on the Coop Board in Wauneta for several years. He also served on Palisade's Town Board for several years. For several years they lived in Apache Junction, AZ during the winters. After Norma's death Gerold moved to the Height's in Imperial in 2005.
Gerold was preceded in death by grandparents, Gustaf and Louisa Larson Bodeman, and James and Clara Little Hilton; parents Lee and "Dot" Hilton Bodeman; father-in-law, C. Orley Troxel and mother-in-law, Luella Bush Troxel; wife, Norma on March 16, 2005; brothers, Leland and wife, Viola Bodeman, Verle Bodeman, and Harlie Bodeman; sisters, LaVerta Newberry, Fern McClatchey-Good; brothers-in-law, Elburn McClatchey and Charles Robert Troxel; sister-in-law, Neoma Miller and husband, Don R. Miller, and sister-in-law, Pauline Mrs. Arlie Bodeman.
Gerold leaves to morn his passing, brother Arlie of Portland, OR, brother-in-laws George Good of El Paso, TX, Gerald Newberry of Vancouver, WA; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Korell Bodeman of Portland, OR, Nola Straub and husband, Harry of Wauneta.
He was a member of the Wauneta Church of Christ.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Funeral services were Friday, May 1, 2009, 10:00 a.m MDT at the Wauneta Church of Christ with Randy Hayes officiating. Burial took place in the Riverside Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
