Gladys Sterr

Gladys M. Sterr, 86, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the ManorCare Heath Services in Dubuque, IA.

She was born in Indianola to Omar H. and Grace (Hartley) Harned on August 20, 1921.

She married Leland D. Sterr on Aug. 16, 1948 in North Platte. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1995.

Her hobbies included bowling, gardening and watching sports on ESPN. She especially loved watching PGA golf. While residing in Dubuque, Gladys made many friends at Cozy Corner Adult Day Care and Home Instead In-Home Care. She will be greatly remembered by her beautiful smile and her love for small children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lolita Harned Kerst, and two brothers, Gaylord and Dale Harned.

Survivors include her children, Donald Ruby and wife, Ruth Ann of Tahlequah, Okla. Lynda (Ruby) Bennett of Farmington Hills, Mich., Ronald Sterr and wife, Mari of Dubuque, Iowa with whom she had resided for the last two years, Debra (Sterr) Niemeier and husband, Robert of Omaha, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Harned of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Sterr) Catrini and husband, Chris of Mahwah, NJ, Jacqueline (Sterr) Macaluso and husband, Fred of Naperville, IL, Jared L. Sterr of Arlington Heights, IL, Douglas Ruby and wife, Beth of Peidmont, OK, Stephanie (Ruby) Johnson and husband, Bryan of Arrow, OK, Nicole Bennett of Farmington Hills, MI, Johnny Bennett and wife, Meghan of Chicago, Illinois, Beth (Niemeier) MacLeod and husband, Jason of Lenexa, Kansas; 11 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Averey, Jillian, Luke, Matthew, Madeline, Sophia, Tyler, Brody and Alana; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Bob and Mariko Wilbricht and Mary Steines at Cozy Care for all their love and kindness thy extended to Gladys.

Memorials were to be given in her name.

Funeral services took place Friday, January 4th, 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home Chapel in McCook with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
