Gordon E. Huryta, 55, of McCook died Monday, November 30, 2009 in McCook.
Gordon was born July 18, 1954 in Sherman County, Nebraska to Edward and Alexandria (Bartunek) Huryta. He was educated in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1972.
After graduation from high school he worked at Henningson Foods and then the camper factory in Ravenna before going to Minnesota for schooling for the railroad. He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for over 34 years making his run from McCook to Colorado. He first lived in Lakewood, Colorado for seven years before moving to McCook where he spent the rest of his life.
He married Bonnelyn Pesek on October 6, 1987 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They made their home in McCook.
He loved Husker football and his Ravenna High School football memories.
Survivors include his mother of Ravenna, son, Elliott Huryta of McCook, brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Faye Huryta of Ravenna, sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Ron Vogt of Ravenna, nieces and their husbands, Pam and Kendall Bruce of Kearney and Kila and Tim Turek of Wood River, nephews and their wives, Kevin and Kathy Vogt of Boelus, Troy and Tricia Vogt of Ravenna and Dr. Jason Vogt and Hannah McNeil-Vogt of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, father and a brother Marvin.
Memorial Services will be at Thursday, December 10, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. A second service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna with Rev. Dean Hanson officiating.
Memorials may be given in his name.
