Grace Geraldine (Palmer) Carmody died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at El Dorado Manor in Trenton. She was 100 years old.
Grace was born June 19, 1909 in Grand Island to Charles Jay and Olga (Stolley) Palmer. She lived in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School. Grace worked in the business office at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for ten years, and was then transferred to the McCook business office, and where she worked until December 30th, 1940.
She was married to Senator Arthur Carmody on January 1st 1941. They farmed south of Trenton where she lived until 1987 when she moved into town.
Grace had been a member of the Woman's Club for 15 years; the Legislative Ladies in Lincoln 1941-1954. She spent six years on the Trenton School Board and on the State School Accreditation Committee. Grace also worked on the State Historical Society Foundation Board for 18 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Arthur (Kit) Carmody; her husband Arthur; a sister, Lillian (Palmer) Lappe; and a brother, Richard Stolley Palmer.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Donna and her husband Charles Stetler and three grandchildren, Dawn Carmody, Shelly Hansen and husband Kim and Matthew Stetler; along with three great grandchildren, Ashley, Lauren, and Nathaniel Martin.
Memorials were to be given to the Hitchcock County Historical Society.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
