Grace Alice Hanthorn, age 91, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Community Hospital of McCook.
Grace was born on November 16, 1924 in Curtis to Edward M. and Marie A. (Steen) Andersen. She graduated from Curtis High School in 1943.
On June 24, 1945 she married Walter Emmett Hanthorn. She worked alongside him on the family farm for 30 years. To this union four children were born, Mary, Charles, Tom and Jane.
Grace loved her family. She was a 4-H leader when her children were in 4-H. She wrote a book of her life story, “The Soddy Story and Poems.” She liked to sew and she made quilts for her family. Grace was known for her large garden; where she would provide fresh produce for friends and family. She enjoyed her flower garden. She was very generous to family and Christian organizations.
Grace was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, where she was active in her Bible study group.
Survivors include sons, Charles Hanthorn and wife, Nikki of Wellfleet, Tom Hanthorn and wife, Ellen of Lincoln, NE; daughters, Mary Crocker of Sioux Falls, SD, Jane Guthrie and husband, Marty of McCook; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, “Moe”; three sisters, Frances, Katherine and Ethel; and one brother, Harold Andersen.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Evangelical Free Church, 604 East 14th St, McCook, NE 69001.
