Harold Blume

Harold A. Blume died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at his home in Indianola. He was 81 years old.

Harold was born on April 16, 1926 at Slaton, Texas to Theodore J. and Elizabeth (Kitten) Blume. He moved to Nebraska at an early age with his family.

He married Violet Cross at Oberlin, Kansas on April 8, 1944. To this union four children were born: Thelma, Pauline, Kenneth and Nancy. They made their home in Indianola. Harold was employed by L. J. Messer, Sidles and Mr. Automotive as a machinist until his retirement in April, 1991. In his retirement, he spent time gardening, visiting with friends and neighbors in and chatting with those at the local coffee shop.

Harold was a member of the Indianola United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ted and Elizabeth; four brothers, Robert, James, Bernard, and Richard; one sister, Blanche Younger; son-in-law, Jerrell Pickett, sister-in-law, Fiorella (Blume) Kyle; granddaughter, Tammy Pickett.

Survivors included his wife, Violet and children; Thelma Pickett, of Wessington, South Dakota, Pauline Jones of Grand Island, NE, Ken Blume and wife, Bosa, of Carol Stream, Illinois, Nancy Randolph and husband, Larry of Indianola, NE; sister, Alice Hanson and husband Wayne of Cambridge, NE; sisters-in-law, Jane Blume of Indianola and Janet Blume of Lufkin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Winona Duxbury, Shane and Logan Pickett, Mischa and Ted Jones, Zach, Jesse and Erin Randolph; six great-grandchildren, Colton, Brandon and Michela Duxbury, Hailey Jones, Jenna SaBell and Chase Jones, plus many relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Indianola United Methodist Church carpet fund.

Graveside memorial services were Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Indianola Cemetery with Pastor David Rowe officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
