Harold Walter Esch, age 73, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at his home, rural McCook.
He was born on May 8, 1936 to Walter John and Rosine (Brietling) Esch in McCook. He attended Ash Creek Parochial School.
He married Melva June Pollmann on May 4, 1958 at the Christian Union Church in Stratton. After their marriage, they moved to the family farm where they lived their entire life and raised their four children, Kent, Michael, James and Barbara.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lutherans Layman's League, and served as Elder and Secretary of the Congregation. He also served on the Indianola Fire Board and Tri State Livestock Board.
His hobby was welding, so after he retired from farming in 1999, he started a welding business at his home. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rosine Esch; step-mother, Emma (Guenthner) Esch; grandchildren, Andrew Esch and C.J. Esch; one sister, Dorothy Albers; two step-sisters, Berniece Richter and Florence Bazler; and one step-brother, Paul Guenthner.
He is survived by his wife, Melva of McCook; sons, Kent Esch and wife, Lisa of LoneTree, CO, Michael Esch and wife, Barb of McCook and James Esch and wife, Lori of Georgetown, TX; daughter, Barb Schummer and husband, Ron of West Lafayette, IN; brother, Vern Esch and wife, Sara of Indianola; step-brothers, Luther Guenthner and wife, Mae of Osborn, ID, Marvin Guenthner and wife, Gladys of Minot, ND and Max Guenthner and wife, Marge of Underwood, ND; step-sisters, Evelyn Wiedrich and husband, Melvin of Alhambra, CA and Dorothy Bauer and husband, Elmer of Covina, CA; step-brother-in-law, Leonard Bazler of Great Falls, MT; step-sister-in-law, Esther Guenthner of Missoula, MT; mother-in-law, Opal Pollmann Tincher of McCook; and 10 grandchildren, Adam, Anthony, Bradley and Matthew Esch, Jennifer Brown and husband, Josh, Lindsey Esch and fiancé©, Chad Stewart, Lanay and Micaela Esch, Ryan and Alex Schummer.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 3, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ash Creek with Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Burial took place in St. John's Cemetery
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
