Harold Mihm

Harold Raymond Mihm died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Heritage of Wauneta. He was 91.

Harold was born on July 27, 1917 to Fred Henry and Anna Marie (Kircher) Mihm on a farm north of Indianola. He was baptized in the St. Catherine's Church in Indianola. Harold worked as a farm hand for different people in the community.

He was drafted and on April 28, 1942, entered training in the US Army and was stationed at Brickenridge, Kentucky. He came home on furlough and he and his sweetheart, Claudia Kerchal, daughter of Bertha Kerchal, were united in marriage in McCook at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. When his leave was over he and his bride returned to Kentucky. He was called overseas and landed in Germany December 1, 1943 and returned home in February of 1946 receiving credit for 172 days of combat.

Following his military service he bought land east of Palisade and farmed. His wife, Claudia, preceded him in death on February 6, 1977. Harold married Lena V. (Tucker) Nickerson on April 21, 1981, in Trenton and they made their home in Palisade. He continued to farm until retiring in March of 1997.

Harold was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and American Legion in Palisade for over 50 years. He was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Palisade.

Preceding him in death were both his wives, Claudia in 1977 and Lena in 2007; infant brother, Albert and two brothers, Clarence and wife, Alma Mihm, Clifford and wife, Sylvia Mihm; and nephew, Larry Mihm.

He is survived by one sister, Mildred and husband, John Weskamp of McCook; step-daughters, Carole Patterson of Boise, ID and Donna and husband, Dan Price of Manitou Springs, CO; and four step-grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Patterson and David and Doug Price; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials were to be given to the Holy Family Catholic Church in Palisade or to givers choice.

Rosary took place on Saturday, November 8, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 11:00 a.m. Father Val Bartek officiating. Burial took place in the Palisade Cemetery with a military honor guard committal.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
