Hazel Helena (Richter) Miller died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. She was 92 years old.
Hazel was born on January 15, 1915 in Wallace to George Bayard and Grace B. (Morehead) Clough. Her family moved to Dickens when Hazel was a small child and she received her education there.
On May 30, 1932, she married Harold Frank Richter in Holyoke, CO. They made their home on a farm near Hayes Center. To this union three children were born. Hazel was a homemaker and was an integral part of the farming operation. They moved to Lincoln in 1957. Hazel was a bookkeeper for Woodman Life Insurance Company. They retired in 1974 and moved to Colorado. Harold died in September of 1978. She later married William Sanford Miller in Greeley, CO. After Williams death, Hazel returned to McCook in September of 1999 and lived at Willow Ridge Retirement Community. She moved to Heritage of Wauneta in July of 2002 and was living there at the time of her death.
Hazel attended United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Hayes Center. She loved singing, going on picnics in all seasons, sewing and quilting, and spending time in her flower and vegetable garden. She spent hours collecting owls and her most enjoyment in life came from spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Grace Clough; brothers, Melvin and Alvin and infant brother Leonard; and sister, Verna Fristo.
Survivors include her two sons, Del Richter and wife, Joyce, of Hayes Center and Buddy Richter and wife, Janice, of Castle Rock, CO; daughter, Bonnie and husband, Con Rader, of Huntington Beach, CA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Funeral services were Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Hayes Center with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Burial took place in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
