Helen Lambert, age 74 of McCook, NE passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
Helen was born December 26, 1939 in Zurich, Kansas to Everett and Beulah (Lee) Hadley. She attended and graduated from Palco Rural High School in 1958 as valedictorian of her class.
Helen married her high school sweetheart, George Lambert, on August 15, 1959 in Plainville, Kansas. To this union three children were born: Thad, Brad and Nikki. The couple made their home in Hoxie, KS from 1962 to 2004 where Helen worked at the local bank and was an administrative assistant for the USD412 school district from 1981 until her retirement in 2002. George and Helen moved to McCook in 2004 to be closer to family.
Helen was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Hoxie where she was active with the Altar Society. She was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. She enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her coffee group in McCook. Helen was also a PEO member, a bridge club member, an avid reader and she enjoyed dance. She loved college football and was a big fan of the Kansas State Wildcats, especially when her son Brad played at KSU. Helen was known for critiquing Brad's playing, but even more so his coaching over the years.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Leland and Donald Hadley.
Helen is survived by her husband George Lambert of McCook; children, Thad and wife Jill Lambert of McCook, Brad and wife Angie Lambert of Charlotte, NC and Nikki and husband Bill Cappel of McCook; sister Vida Nyp of Wamego, KS; as well as seven grandchildren, Trevor, Trenten, Lucy, Layne, Beau, Cade and Cole. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. also at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Palco cemetery in Palco, KS.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
