Helen E. Meyers died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born on March 13, 1907 to George Washington and Ida (Hauxwell) Loomis in Haigler. She graduated from McCook High School in 1924.
Helen married Hugh Meyers in McCook on May 1, 1935. To this union two children were born, Marilyn and Kent. She taught rural school for eleven years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and her kittens.
She was a member of the Indianola Christian Church and a 73 year member of the Red Willow Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh in 1969; great-grandson, Nicholas O’Dea; two sisters, Jessie Waddell and Faye Shepherd; and a brother, Charles Loomis.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Bohl and husband Gordon of Arvada, Co.; her son, Kent Meyers and wife, Deb of McCook; a sister, Mildred Zink of McCook; 9 grandchildren, Joyce Potthoff and husband, Darrel, Andy O’Dea and wife, Lori, Beth O’Dea, Steve O’Dea and wife, Dawn, Jason Meyers and wife, Staci, Jeremy Meyers and wife, Bambi, Ryan Meyers, Derek Meyers and Erin Meyers, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren; and special caregivers, Dixie Kofler and Marilyn Gaster.
Memorials were to be given in her name to the new building for the McCook Humane Society.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Indianola Christian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer and Mike Searcey officiating. Burial took place in McCook at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
