Helen Louise Sell, age 87 went to Heaven Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.
She was born August 2, 1926 in Smith Center, Kansas to Cecil and Hazel Bolin. Helen attended school in Oberlin, Kansas and Orleans, Nebraska. She then moved to Stamford, Nebraska where she attended junior high and high school, and graduated in 1944.
Helen married her high school sweetheart, Bob Sell on Christmas day in 1946 at her parent's home in Republican City, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Robin and Rita.
Through the years Helen worked as a telephone operator, at the Stamford Star Newspaper, and several positions at the Post Office including Postmaster.
Helen and her family did a lot of traveling, covering most of the United States. Bob and Helen were excellent dancers and visited many ballrooms.
She was a member of the Nebraska Rural Carriers Auxiliary, holding all offices including State President. She was a member of the Nebraska League of Postmasters. Helen was a member of the Stamford Christian Church where she had also been a Sunday School teacher.
Helen and Bob adored their two grandsons, they spent endless hours attending their school and sporting events.
In recent years Helen was able to enjoy her three great granddaughters, she shared photos and stories of those little girls who were so precious to her.
Helen lived in Stamford for over sixty years, she and Bob celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary together in McCook. The past seven years Helen has resided at Willow Ridge Retirement Center. She loved it there and felt like everyone was family to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Hazel Bolin; husband, Bob; mother and father-in-law, Rudy and Hazel Sell; and brother-in-law, Curly Olney.
She is survived by children, Robin Sell and Rita Bentley and husband, Cotton of McCook; two grandsons, Rob (Jenny) Bentley of Big Rapids, Michigan and Benji (Lindsay) Bentley of Lincoln; three great granddaughters, Addison and Ava of Michigan and Bella of Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Betty Jo Olney of McCook.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Stamford Cemetery in Stamford with Pastor Thalia Woodworth officiating.
