Howard James "Jim" Hackney, age 53, of Firestone, CO passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 1, 2021.
Jim was born June 26, 1968, in McCook, NE to parents Howard Keith and Diane (Morgan) Hackney. He was one of three siblings who grew up in McCook, attending school and graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1986. Jim then went on to attend Mid Plains Community College in North Platte, NE, where he earned an associate’s degree in welding technology.
On July 6, 1991, Jim married Michelle Renee (Sundquist) Hackney in Curtis, NE. To this union their two children, Alec and Alise were born. Over the years, Jim worked at Wintersteiger as a traveling technician before becoming a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Jim was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and an active member of the NRA. He was passionate about his career and taking care of his family. He also enjoyed doing many outdoor activities, working on cars, and working around the house.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother and stepfather, Diane and Wayne Bryant, his sister, Cindy Waddell, and brother in law, Jeremey Sundquist.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Michelle Hackney of Firestone, CO; son, Alec Hackney of Denver, CO; daughter, Alise Hackney and fiancé Chandler Wroten of Johnstown, CO; father and stepmother, Keith (Helen) Hackney of McCook, NE; sister, Beth (Jeff) Crick of McCook, NE; stepsister Lori (Travis) Ayers of Cheyenne, WY; stepbrother Micheal Barber, of Jackson WY; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
