Hubert "Pete" King

January 18, 1925 — May 11, 2014

Hubert G. "Pete" King of Minneola, KS originally of McCook passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Minneola District Hospital. He was 89 years old.

Pete was born on January 18, 1925 to parents, Wilbur L. and Eva R. (Swafford) King in Cullison, KS. He graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, CO. On June 7, 1943, he entered the US Army Air Corp and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1945.

On December 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to Virginia R. "Ginny" Meredith in Salina, KS. They moved to the McCook community in 1964. Pete was in sales both retail and wholesale for 47 years. The last 27 was spent as a traveling fabric salesman before retiring.

He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and carpentry work.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Virginia on July 9, 2010; his daughter, Pamula Olson; grandson, Nathanial Buckley; parents, Wilbur and Eva King; five sisters, Martha, Doris, Clarice, Ionia, and Cleo; and five brothers, Ralph, Gerald, Barton, Samuel and Dale.

Survivors include his son, Scott King and wife, Julie, of Evergreen, CO; daughter, Debra and husband, Dave Buckley, of Minneola, KS; two brothers, Marvin "Jack" King of Littleton, CO and Homer "Lucky" King, of Lakewood, CO; son-in-law, Randy Olson of Johnstown, CO; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Kip Ryherd officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
