Irene M. Modrell, of McCook, formerly of Palisade, died Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 98 years old.
She was born May 11, 1908 in Hayes County on the farm to Birl S. and Stella M. (Cunningham) Dunham. She grew up in Hayes County and graduated in 1926 from Palisade High School.
She married Bernard Modrell November 8, 1928 in the bride's home north of Palisade. To this union two children were born. They farmed and ranched north of Palisade, until they retired in 1971 and moved into Palisade.
She was a member of Palisade United Methodist Church, WSCS, Order of Eastern Star and the Jolly Jane's Club. She was the church organist for many years. She was a homemaker and seamstress who also loved music, poetry, writing, crocheting, and quilting. She was a very thoughtful, giving and sharing mother.
She was preceded in death by parents; and husband in 1985; four siblings, Mabel, Ethel, Elmer, and Ada; one great-grandson, Danny Joe Jussel.
Survivors include: her son, James and wife Eloise Modrell of Algona, IA; and a daughter Bernadene "Bunnie" and husband Leroy Jussel of Wauneta; sister-in-law, Florence Modrell of McCook; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be given to the Palisade Ambulance and Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 11:00 a.m. CST at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Rev. Judy Dye officiating.
Burial took place in the Palisade Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
