Iris (Joy) Thompson, 87, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2008) at Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains, N.J.
She was born May 21, 1921, in Culbertson to Ira and Flossie Joy. She graduated from Culbertson High School.
She married to Dale Thompson in 1942, and following their marriage they resided on several Army bases during World War II and then returned to McCook where they farmed and raised registered Herefords.
She was also employed by Stull Jewelers, Dr. Donaldson and the Red Willow County Weed Board. She assisted Dale with his involvement on the Red Willow County Fair Board and the Nebraska State Fair Board.
She was a member of the Memorial Methodist Church, Farmerettes Club, Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, BPOE Does and served as a 4-H leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Flossie Joy; husband, Dale; son, Don; daughter, Cindy; brothers, Willard and Dean Joy; and sisters, Wilma Hoyt and Elaine Budig.
Survivors include her son, Gregg Thompson and wife, Sue of McCook; daughter, Jeanette Demarest and husband, Albert of West Milford; brother, Wayne Joy and wife, Ruth of McCook; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Memorial services were Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place in Riverview Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
