Jack Lee Blauvelt, 80, of McCook, NE, passed away July 11, 2015 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born June 18, 1935 in Holbrook, NE to Harry and Verna (Graning) Blauvelt.
Jack entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict on May 1, 1953 and was honorably discharged on October 6, 1956. Following his return from overseas, he became an over the road truck driver.
Jack married Joyce M. Webster in 1957 and to this union three children were born: Tammy, Steve and Chris. On September 23, 1978 Jack married Valerie Koller in Arapahoe and to this union added three more children Darcie, Dawn and Mark. In the early 1970’s, Jack joined the Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked 18 years before retiring from the railroad in 1990. He then became owner of Jack’s Place retiring, in 2010.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, playing cards and loved dogs. Jack was an avid football fan of the Huskers, Broncos and 49ers. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack was a member of the Church of Christ in Arapahoe.
Surviving him are wife, Valerie J. Blauvelt of McCook, NE; two sons, Steve and wife Sue Blauvelt of Elmwood, NE and Mark and wife Amy Hurdle of McCook, NE; four daughters, Tammy and husband John Ernst of Council Bluffs, IA, Christiane Longley of Bellingham, WA, Darcie and husband Rick Johnson of Culbertson, NE, and Dawn and husband Travis Rogers of Jackson, NJ, brothers Lyle Blauvelt of McCook, NE and Paul and wife Linda Blauvelt of Holdrege, NE, sisters Lila Mae Ellis of Kearney, NE, Harriet and husband Larry Hornady of Kearney, NE and Thelma and husband Charles Dunlap of Kearney, NE. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Turvey; infant sister, Ruth; grandson, Patrick Lawson; brother-in-law, Tommy Ellis; and sister-in-law, Rosalie Blauvelt.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Dave Davison officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
