Jan Marie Horn

Jan Marie Horn of Cumberland Furnace, TN, originally McCook, passed away on September 30, 2013 at her home. She was 55 years old.

Jan was born on January 14, 1958 at McCook to parents, Elvin Clare and Marion Elvera (Dotson) Allen. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1976. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Michael Owens DDS for many years. She later continued her education through home study and became a Certified Medical Transcriptionist and transcribed for many Doctors.

On June 9, 1979, she was united in marriage to Grant Strunk. To this union two daughters were born, Deanna and Kristen. She later married Doug Horn on July 27, 2007 at Grand Lake, CO. They had been living in Cumberland Furnace for the past two years.

Jan was a member of the McCook Eagles. She loved to cross-stitch, crochet, play the piano, and ride her Harley. She also had a passion for reading and never passed up a chance to have coffee with friends and family. She was an avid Nebraska Husker and Denver Bronco fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Elvin and Marion Allen; sisters, Damaris Hedges and Leah Sughroue and her husband, Jim; niece, Janine Sughroue; and nephews, Jeffery and James (Jimmy) Sughroue.

Survivors include her husband, Doug Horn of Cumberland Furnace, TN; daughters, Deanna and husband, Sheldon Martin of McCook and Kristen and husband, Lance Mohr of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren, Devon, Austin and Carter; sister, Margaret and husband, Walter Holland of Laramie, WY; her aunt Audrey and husband, Salvy Catania of Plattsmouth; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Sue Horn of Palisade; and brother-in-law, Greg Horn of Lincoln; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends; and her beloved Springer Spaniel, Gertrude.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Indianola Cemetery.
