Jane "Jean" Elizabeth Carmichael

Jane "Jean" Elizabeth Carmichael died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at her home in Indianola. She was 76.

She was born in New York City on June 30, 1931 to John and Mary Gorycki. She graduated in 1948 in New York.

She married Marion Ardell Carmichael on May 5, 1951 in New York City. To this union, three children were born. After raising their family in New York City, they retired to Indianola in 1980.

She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; three brothers, Frank, Tony and Ed Gorycki; one sister, Helen Hurst.

She is survived by her husband, Marion Carmichael of Indianola; sons, Martin Carmichael and wife, Barbara of Spring, Texas, Pat Carmichael of New York City; daughter, Deb Wooley of Spring, Texas; sisters, Stella Contegni and husband, Joe, Wanda Gorycki, and Sophie Pontiatowski all of New York City; brother-in-law, Ted Hurst of Centereach, NY; sister-in-laws, Alyce Stritt, Wilma Liess, of McCook and Bonnie Murkowski of Farmingdale, NY; three grandchildren, Jason Wooley, Stephen Wooley and Thomas Carmichael; and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, April 4, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Thomas McGuire as Celebrant. Rosary was said on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial took place in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at 2:15 p.m.

Memorials were to be given in her name to Community Home Health and Hospice.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
