Janet Szuba of McCook died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte. She was 73 years old.

Janet was born on September 24, 1931, in Tonawanda, New York, to Ira and Nellie (Heatherly) Lyon. She graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1951.

She married John Henrick Szuba in September of 1954, in Buffalo. To this union two children were born. They made their home in Buffalo where Janet's husband was employed with Ford Motor Company and she was a homemaker. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for General Mills in the early 50's. Her husband preceded her in death in 1988. She moved to the McCook community in 1993, to be in closer to her children.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower garden and crocheting and sewing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; two brothers; and a sister in childhood.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Szuba of Larned, Kansas; daughter, Ann Marie Hopkins of New York, New York; sister, Lucille and husband, Alfred "Jack" Baker, of Clearwater, Florida; and grandchildren, Ilyana and Warren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Rosary will be Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 6:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. A graveside service will be Thursday, March 24, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery with Father Gary Brethour officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in her honor at a later time. There will be no public visitation, the body was cremated.
