Jim L. Marts of McCook, Nebraska died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 67 years old.
Jim was born at Cambridge, on April 14, 1941, the son of George F. and Hannah ODell Marts. He graduated from Bartley High School in 1959.
On May 5, 1962 he married Barbara Graff at St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook. Three children were born to this union.
Jim worked as a rig hand in the oil fields near McCook for more than 15 years for several oil companies. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan. Jim helped deliver Meals on Wheels for the Senior Center, enjoyed bowling as well as watching bowling and fishing on TV. Jim enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his father George Marts and son, Christopher Joseph.
Survivors include: his wife Barbara of McCook; son, Sgt. Christopher James Marts, and wife Alison of Ft. Carson, Colorado, presently serving his country in Iraq; daughter Tammie S. Marts and Tim Redden and children Clinton & Clayton Redden all of McCook; his mother, Hannah Hageman of Cambridge; brother Robert Marts and wife Tina of Bartley; and sister Franny Chambers and husband Jerry of McCook.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Rosary took place Tuesday, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant, Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment took place in Calvary Cemetery.
Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
