Joan J. Barger, 86, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Joan was born May 13, 1925 at home near St. Ann, Nebraska to Joseph and Lucy (McCracken) Anderjaska. She graduated from High School in Curtis, Nebraska in 1942, and then taught school in both Hitchcock and Hayes County. She married Robert C. Barger on January 19, 1944 at St. Ann Catholic Church.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucy; husband, Robert C. Barger; an infant daughter, Rebecca Ann; and two brothers, Conrad Anderjaska and Jerry Anderjaska.

Joan was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook and was a member of the Altar Society. Joan was an artist and avid painter of landscapes, and past member of the McCook Art Guild. She loved to bake and garden in the summertime.

Joan is survived by her four sons: Brendon and wife Bonnie Barger of Imperial; Joseph and wife, Kathryn Barger of Wauneta; William and wife RanDee Barger of Culbertson, and Steven and wife Ann Barger of McCook; one daughter, Elizabeth Siegfried of McCook; three brothers: Arnold and wife Mary of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Bernard and Sue of Loup City, Nebraska; Coran (Tom) and wife Mary Ann of Hayes Center; two sisters: Claire and husband Robert Uerling of Indianola; Audrey and husband James Suiter of McCook; 25 grandchildren: Patrick Barger, Robert and wife Kristen Barger, Christopher Barger, Maria and husband Chuck Willox, Stephen Barger, Margaret and husband Art Schroelin, Monica and husband Troy Hough, Andrea and husband Andy Fiala, Theresa and husband Ken Dumont, Courtney Barger, Abby and husband Mathew Ward, Peter Barger, Laura Barger, Russell and wife Carlene Barger, Stacy and husband Brian Agnew, Travis and wife Jessica Barger, Jacob and wife Katie Barger, Kathryn and husband Ryan Dobler, Clinton Barger, Stephanie and husband Casey Roth, Chelsie Barger, Shane Barger, Benjamin and wife Katherine Siegfried, Cody Siegfried, Adam Siegfried; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, January 13 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary to follow.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 14, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook, with Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Joan’s name, to be designated at a later date.
