John Coyle

October 18, 1919 — December 31, 2004


John Francis Coyle, 85, of McCook, died Friday, December 31, 2004 at McCook Community Hospital.

He was born October 18, 1919 to John and Amanda (Wendele) Coyle at Culbertson. He attended and graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1939. He lived in Frontier and Hitchcock Counties all his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Drill Sergeant. He was a Disabled American Veteran.

On May 6, 1945, he was united in marriage to Alice May Jewell of McCook at Garden Prairie First United Methodist Church. To this union six children were born.

He was a farmer and had received the Nebraska State Wheat Farmer of the Year from the Wheat Growers. He was a 4-H leader for more than 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles, Nebraska Wheat Growers, National Farmers Organization, Nebraska Farmers Union, Frontier County Historical Society, was on the school board and active in the Nebraska Small Schools Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Mae on May 1, 2004; two infant sons, John Wayne Coyle and William Lynn Coyle; and brother and sister-in-law Ervin and Verna Coyle; and brother-in-law, Paul Warnock.

He is survived by: daughter, Patty Harris of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter, Tracy Bradley of Denver, Colo.; great-grandson, Jessy Bradley and his wife, Jana; and great-great-grandsons, Daron and Taylor Bradley of Commerce City, Colo.; grandson Charles Harris and great-granddaughters, Christina and Carol Eve Harris of St. Francis, Kan.; daughter, Mary Alice and husband, Richard Corman of Edgar; granddaughters, Angela Corman of Tulsa, Okla., and Crystal Corman of Lincoln; grandson, Kelly Corman of Lincoln; daughter, Donna and husband, Bill Liess, Greeley, Colo.; grandson, Jason Liess of Fort Collins, Colo.; and granddaughter, Sarah Liess of Greeley; son, John Coyle Jr., of McCook and grandson, Trey Coyle; sister, Velma Warnock of Culbertson; nephew Jerry Coyle and wife Jackie of McCook; and various other family members and friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Services were Tuesday, January 4, 2005 1:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment took place in the Garden Prairie Cemetery, north of McCook on highway 83.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
