John Julian (Jack) Abbuhl, 79, Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Palisade passed away Wednesday April 16, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.
He was born July 25, 1928 in Palisade, Nebraska to Ziba and Pearl Arinda (Smoots) Abbuhl. He grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1945.
After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska. Then farmed near Palisade until 1950 at which time he entered the U. S. Army and served with the First Calvary Division in Korea. He returned to Palisade and was united in marriage to Rosetta Miller on September 14, 1952.
Jack continued to farm in the Palisade area until becoming post master of the Palisade post office in 1971. He was employed by the post office until his retirement in 1992. After that time, in 1994, Jack and Rosetta moved to Red Oak, IA to be closer to his son and grandchildren.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta, of Red Oak, Iowa, his son, Bernard and wife Martha of Red Oak; sister, Janice Corfman of Brea, California, 3 grandchildren, Jacob of Flagstaff, AZ, Jason and Arinda of Red Oak.
A memorial fund was established in his name.
Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Pastor Judy Dye officiating. Burial took place with military honors in the Palisade Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
