John Leo "Jack" Kelley passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. He was 77 years old.
Jack was born on July 21, 1935 to Ora T. and Alice (Sullivan) Kelley in McCook. He grew up in McCook and attended the Catholic Schools. Jack served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960 when he was honorably discharged.
On May 25, 1963 he married Carol Johnson at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. To this union three children were born. He lived in McCook all of his life and worked for a time at McCook Packing Company as a truck driver and mechanic. He later went into farming where he raised crops and livestock. After his retirement he remained active on the farm and continued to attend cattle auctions as well as watch them on the television.
Jack was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed collecting model semi trucks and tractors and watching an occasional football game.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Alice Kelley; one brother, Robert Kelley; half-brother, Bud Kelley; and half sister, Opal McKillip.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Carol Kelley, of McCook; two daughters, Barbara Czarnick of Omaha and Laura and husband, Kevin Erskine, of Lincoln; one son, Robert Kelley and wife, Denise, of North Platte; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Czarnick and Rachel Czarnick of Omaha, Kayleigh Erskine, Adam Erskine and Valerie Erskine of Lincoln, Hannah Kelley and Shawn Kelley of North Platte; half brother, Max Kelley of Cheyenne, WY; brothers-in-law, Richard Johnson and wife, Lila, of McCook, Dennis Johnson and wife, Loni, of Minden; sister-in-law, Sharon and husband, Aaron Schomberg, of Littleton, CO; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
