Jolene Anne Burns died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was 33 years young.

Jolene was born on March 26, 1975 in Denver, CO to Samuel Baker and Shari Lyn (Stobie) Gillette. She graduated from Arvada High School, Arvada, CO in 1993. She continued her education at Metro State College in Denver.

On December 31, 2005, she married Darren Burns in Denver. They made their home in Denver where Darren taught school and Jolene was a busy mother and homemaker. They moved to the McCook community in 2006.

Jolene was a member of the First Baptist Church and American Baptist Women’s Ministries where she served as secretary. She was an avid artist and loved to read. Among her other favorites were baking, gardening, playing the clarinet and saxophone and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandmother, Donna Stobie and paternal grandfather, Louis Gillette.

Survivors include her husband, Darren Burns of McCook; son Joshua Burns of the home; mother and step-father, Shari and James Brandt of McCook; father, Samuel Gillette of Arvada; brother, Jason Jeremiah Brandt and wife, Kate, of Charleston, SC; maternal grandparents, Allan Stobie and wife, Pat of Palm Harbor, FL and Don and Marilyn Brandt of McCook; paternal grandmother, Margaret “Parge” Gillette of Orkis Island, WA; numerous family members and a host of friends.

Memorials were to be given to the Joshua Burns College Fund.

Funeral services were Thursday, October 16, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in McCook with Pastor Allen C. Jackson officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
