Joseph Pete Vlasin passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his rural farm near Hayes Center. He was 84 years old.
Joe was born on August 6, 1927 at Hayes Center to Joseph John and Rose (Kucera) Vlasin. He graduated from Hayes Center High School.
Joe was united in marriage to Doris Nelms on August 5, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church rural Hayes Center. To this union four sons were born. On February 12, 1952, he entered the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 11, 1954.
After his discharge, Joe returned to the family farm near Hayes Center where he farmed for the remainder of his life. In addition to his farming and ranching he also worked for the Hayes County Coop.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the Lions Club. His hobbies included fishing, collecting coins, and going to polka dances.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Rose Vlasin; two sons, David Michael and Regan E. "Reg" Vlasin; three brothers, Edward, Ladik and George Vlasin; and two sisters, Velma Schuman and Agnes Kurth.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Doris Vlasin of Hayes Center; two sons, Rick Vlasin of Minden and Randy Vlasin and wife, Donna, of Imperial; grandchildren, Jeremy Vlasin and wife, Amanda, and their children, Aidan and Chantal, of Imperial, Matt Vlasin and wife, Ashley, of Imperial, Adam Vlasin of Imperial, Tyler Vlasin and special friend, Amanda Larrabee, and their daughter, Aubrey, of Imperial, and Lindsay and husband, Jarod Shearer, and their son, Kale, of Lincoln; sister, Gertrude Lankas, of Atwood, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in his name to donor's choice.
