Joy Mae (DeOss) Burton Arendell , 76 died Monday, February 20, 2006 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney.

Joy was born April 24, 1929 to Francis Henry and Ollie Mae (McClellan) DeOss in Holbrook, NE. Joy was the third of four children.

Joy grew up in Holbrook and attended Holbrook Public School graduating in 1947. In 1948 Joy completed training as an Airline Communications Stenographer in Omaha, NE.

On Oct. 8, 1948 Joy married Ralph Myrl Burton. To this union five children were born; Jacqueline Rae, Ralph Michael, Max Dewayne, William Joe, and Joy Lynn. As a single parent in the 1970's, Joy often worked two jobs at once in order to support her children. On Sept. 27, 1976 Joy married Gilbert LeRoy (Roy) Arendell. Joy worked as a nurse’s aide, as well as at TRW, Dayco, and Cornbelt Chemical prior to her retirement.

Joy was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in McCook, and she treasured the friendship and support shown to her. Joy was a loving and positive force in her children's lives, and always encouraged them to achieve as much as possible. Although Joy's life was hard at times, she kept her faith in God, her sense of humor, and did the best she could. Joy delighted at the birth of each grandchild, and enjoyed spoiling them as much as she could. In 1995 Joy moved into Plum Creek Care Home in Lexington. In 1997 Joy moved to Mount Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney, NE where she lived until her death.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, on Oct. 5, 1985, sister, Mary Lou Walker on Sept. 4, 1993, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack (Lola) DeOss, and a niece, Ramona (Walker) Allerheiligen on Oct. 4, 1993.

Joy is survived by her children; Jacque Shepherd of Kearney, NE., Ralph "Mike" Burton of Idaho Springs, CO., Max Burton of McCook, William "Bill" Burton and wife Sunni of Lexington, NE., and Joy Lynn Solko and husband Patrick of Herndon, KS., her brothers Jack DeOss of Holbrook, NE., William "Joe" DeOss of Garden Grove, CA; thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with Pastor Eddie Wright officiating. Inurnment took place at the Indianola Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
