Julia Marie Cappel died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 83 years old.
She was born in Winona, Kansas on October 10, 1926 to Thomas and Nellie M. (Snider) Page. She attended Emily Griffith School in Denver.
On December 11, 1948, Julia married Robert Lloyd Cappel at Burlington, Colorado. To this union five children were born, Bob, Richard, Charles, LaDonna and Christine. They lived on the family farm southwest of McCook where Robert helped his father farm. They later moved to town in the early 1950's.
Julia was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the Extension Club. She worked at Sehnert's and Daylight Donuts. She loved to dance and sing and she taught herself how to play the violin. She loved her many friends and attended a coffee group every Saturday. She moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in November of 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Lewis Bennett, Percy Newell, Harry Newell; sisters, Hattie Payton, Naomi Summer and Louise Thrasher.
Survivors include her three sons, Bob Cappel and wife, Carolyn of Yankton, SD, Richard Cappel and wife, Debra of McCook and Charles Cappel and wife, Jan of Holdrege; two daughters, LaDonna Karre and husband, Tom of Kearney and Christine Cappel of McCook; sister, Theresa Tate of Denver; special friend, Hulda Frick of McCook; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials were to be given in her name to the Veteran's Soldier's Hugs Project (a group that sends care packages to soldiers overseas).
Funeral services were Friday, February 12, 2010, 11 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
