June Helen Louise Martens died Thursday, November 16, 2006, at Community Hospital in McCook. She had recently turned 91 years old.
June was born on November 10, 1915, in Pender, Nebraska to Henry Herman and Elizabeth Wilhelmina (Rowe) Martens. She graduated from Pender High School.
She made her home in Hardington for 22 years. She then moved to Holdrege and then to North Platte. She finally moved to McCook where she has resided for over the past 26 years. While living in these communities, June was employed by their Elk's Clubs as a waitress, bartender, cook and janitor. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Martens; two brothers, Helmuth and Allen Martens; and one sister, Rita May.
Survivors include her brother, R.A. "Pete" Martens and wife, Ursula, of Sun Lakes, AZ; one niece, Beth Martens, of Burbank, CA; two nephews, Timothy Martens and Greg Martens both of Oakland; and special friend Ursula Bernard and the late Douglas Bernard.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Graveside services were Monday, November 20, 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery with committal following.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
