Karen Lynn Scott of McCook passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Community Hospital. She was 76 years old.
Karen was born on June 12, 1938 in Greeley, Colorado. As a baby she was adopted by Harold Lee and Mae (Lyons) Richards, Sr. She graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1955. She continued her education at Kearney State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate.
She taught school for a short time until her marriage to Norman Jay Scott. They were married on May 9, 1958 at Hayes Center. To this union two children were born, Michael and Michele.
After moving to McCook Karen worked for Hillcrest Nursing Home as a transcriptionist for several years. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Hayes Center while living there and attended the McCook Presbyterian Church. Karen’s hobbies included crossword puzzles, fishing, playing the piano, crocheting and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mae Richards; her ex-husband, Norman Scott; son, Michael Scott; and brother, Harold Richards, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Michele Scott of Pewaukee, WI; brother, Laryl Richards of Wauneta; sisters-in-law, Delores Richards of Hayes Center, Glora Clark of McCook and Vira and husband, Jim Colson, of Kimball; three grandchildren, Tasia Scott, Heather Downing, and Eric Russell; one great-granddaughter, Emma Downing; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given to in her name.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, December 2, 2014, 1:30 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Hayes Center with Pastor Luke Woldford officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Hayes Center Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
