Kendall Ray Moon of North Platte passed away Sunday morning, January 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He fought a brief courageous battle with an aggressive lung cancer. He was 42 years old.
Kendall was born on Sunday morning, June 8, 1969 in Liberal, Kansas to James Edward and Myrna Eulaine (Witzke) Moon. At the age of 13, Raymond Haag entered his life and became a loving step-father. Kendall attended grade school at Oberlin, Kansas and graduated from Beaver Valley High School at Lebanon in 1988. He continued his education at McCook Community College.
Kendall entered the Nebraska National Guard in 1987 and he was honorably dismissed in 1993.
On March 20, 1993, he was united in marriage to Tracy Ann Fritz at St. Johns Lutheran Church rural McCook. They made their home in the rural Bartley community where Kendall worked in the oil fields and farmed. They moved to North Platte in 1996 where he worked as a pipefitter for Union Pacific Railroad.
Kendall was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of McCook and attended Beautiful Saviors Lutheran Church in North Platte, the Jack Helt Post #313 of the American Legion in Lebanon, and Sheet Metal Workers International Association #334.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing, demolition derby cars, playing darts, and anything involved with the water sports. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and occasionally picked out a tune on the piano. He was handy at most anything and spent many hours making improvements on the family home. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, James Moon; brother, Randall Moon; step-brother, Ronald Haag; his father-in-law, Martin Fritz, and his grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy Ann Moon of North Platte; children Nathan Moon and Jessica Moon of the home; his mother and step-father, Ray and Myrna Haag of Bartley; sister, Susan and husband, Greg Kempel, of Casselton, ND; step-sisters, Cindy and husband, Steve Seberger, of Marshalltown, IA, Annie Patton of Cooper, TX, Colleen and husband, Rob Michaelis, and Jeanine Haag all of McCook; step-brother, Steve Haag and wife, Shari, of McCook; mother-in-law, Sundae Fritz of Indianola; brother-in-law, Todd Fritz of North Platte; sister-in-law Marla and husband Shane Messersmith of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to the Nathan and Jessica Moon Education Fund or to the givers choice.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, starting at 11:00 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 402 Baytree Ave., North Platte, NE. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Deardoff officiating.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 1-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Ash Creek, rural McCook with Pastor Bob Deardoff and Pastor Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery rural Bartley.
