Kenneth Charles Luther died Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 98 years old.
Kenneth was born at Orleans, Nebraska on September 27, 1911, to Harry Charles and Mary (Backes) Luther. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1929.
After returning from serving in the army, he was united in marriage to Louise M. Streff on February 17, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. To this union three children were born, Clayton, Suzanne and Barbara. Kenneth and Louise were farmers and made their home on a farm west of Indianola until 1982 when they moved into town.
Kenneth was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the McCook Elks Lodge. He served on the church board, school board and worked with the Noxious Weed District. He was an enthusiastic Husker Fan and loved all sports. He and Louise were world travelers visiting Africa, Alaska, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Jerusalem and the Holy Land. They also toured the United States, Hong Kong and Canada.
His family was so very important to him. He loved them all and was so proud of all of them. He and Louise were involved with their children and grandchildren in their lives, watching their sports activities, graduations and other special occasions. Family and their Catholic Faith were their most prized blessings and so important to them. Kenneth lived a long and fulfilled life getting to know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoying their travels.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Mary Luther; his wife, Louise in 2001; his sisters, Ursula at the age of 16, Lucille and Bertha Haag; and one brother, Leroy Luther.
Survivors include his son, Clayton Luther and wife, Marilyn, of Grand Island; two daughters, Suzanne Davidson and Barbara and husband, Lonnie Weskamp, all of McCook; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials were to be given in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
Rosary was on Sunday, February 14, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, February 15, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Fathers Gary Brethour and Thomas McGuire as Celebrants, with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook was in charge of the arrangements.
